Friends of the South Coastal Library (FOSCL) is a non-profit, all volunteer organization founded in 1988 to build a library for this region of Sussex County. The Friends raised all of the funds to create the current lovely library facility we now enjoy. In 2000, the Friends bought the adjoining lot for expansion, and since the fall of 2002, patrons have enjoyed a parking lot doubled in size. The Friends continue to provide funding to enhance the facility and provide programs for patrons, including the library's Xerox machine, computer maintenance, recognition party for volunteers, landscaping, bestseller collection, and several enrichment programs offered to the community.

The Friends are currently undertaking a three–year Capital Campaign to raise $2.25 million to expand the existing library and to provide space for a cultural center including meeting rooms, a stage for local performances, and much more. The Friends will continue to raise money to support the library’s on-going operations through its annual Beach and Bay Cottage Tour and Harvest Ball.
